A House of Representatives aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Obunike Ohaegbu, popularly known as Nwa Miss, has denied allegations linking him to claims that Peter Obi defrauded aspirants during the party’s primary elections.
The controversy followed comments by Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo during an interview on Channels Television, where he accused Obi and some South-East party leaders of accepting bribes during the primaries.
Okonkwo, now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claimed Ohaegbu had sent him an “SOS message” alleging irregularities and fraud in the NDC primary process.
According to Okonkwo, “Ohaegbu sent an SOS to me and said that Peter Obi is now the head of the criminality. That they were scammed in NDC.”
Reacting during a separate interview on Channels Television, Ohaegbu rejected the allegations, insisting he never accused Obi of demanding money or participating in any fraudulent activity.
He explained that he had circulated a broadcast message to several NDC members, including Okonkwo and Obi, urging party members to disregard rumours that certain aspirants had been granted automatic tickets.
Ohaegbu said the message was focused on concerns about fairness in the party’s candidate selection process and not an accusation against Obi.
“If Kenneth can show anywhere in that message that I said I met Peter Obi throughout this process or that he asked me for money, I will apologise,” he said.
The aspirant, however, disclosed that he had discussions with the party’s national secretary regarding payment for nomination forms and alleged promises of an automatic ticket. He maintained that the N10 million he paid went directly into the NDC’s bank account and was not a bribe.
“I’m telling you, Peter Obi never told me to pay N10 million. The only person who asked me to pay N10 million is the national secretary,” he said.
Ohaegbu also denied claims that he accused Obi and others of manipulating primary election results at a hotel in Abuja while voting was ongoing.
