Oyo Chief Imam Congratulates New Ilorin Chief Imam

The Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh Al-Imam Barrister Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, has congratulated Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani on his appointment as the Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate.

In a statement issued by his office, the Oyo Islamic leader described the appointment, approved by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as a recognition of Sheikh Dasuki’s scholarship, dedication to Islamic teachings and service to the Muslim community.

He also congratulated the Emir of Ilorin, the Muslim Ummah in Ilorin Emirate, Kwara State and across Nigeria on what he described as a significant development for the faith.

According to the statement, Sheikh Dasuki’s extensive contributions to Islamic education, Da’wah and community development have earned him respect within and beyond the Ilorin Emirate.

The Grand Chief Imam prayed for Allah’s guidance, wisdom, sound health and strength for the new Chief Imam as he assumes his responsibilities.

He further stressed the need for religious leaders to play a more active role in promoting peace, unity and moral values, particularly at a time when the country faces security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and violent extremism.

The statement called for stronger collaboration among Islamic scholars, traditional institutions, community leaders and government agencies to address insecurity and social vices. It also emphasized the importance of mosques and religious institutions serving as centres for moral reorientation and the promotion of peaceful coexistence.

The Oyo Chief Imam expressed readiness to work with Sheikh Dasuki and other Islamic leaders across the country to advance Islamic values, strengthen inter-community harmony and support efforts aimed at fostering national unity and security.

He concluded by praying for a successful and impactful tenure for the new Chief Imam of Ilorin.
