BREAKING…. Court Orders INEC to Deregister ADC, Accord Party

Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party and several other political parties over alleged constitutional violations.

The ruling was delivered on Monday in a suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators against INEC and a number of registered political parties.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, challenged the eligibility of the affected parties to remain registered and participate in future elections.

Parties affected by the judgment include the ADC, Action Alliance, APP, Accord Party and Zenith Labour Party, among others.

The decision could have significant political implications ahead of the 2027 general elections. If upheld, it would affect the participation of several candidates who currently belong to the affected parties.

Among those potentially impacted are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s presidential candidate for 2027, and Ademola Adeleke, who is expected to seek re-election on the platform of the Accord Party in the August 15 governorship election.

The court held that INEC should proceed with the deregistration of the affected parties in line with its findings on the alleged constitutional breaches.

Neither INEC nor the affected political parties had officially reacted to the judgment at the time of filing this report.

The ruling is expected to trigger legal and political responses as stakeholders assess its implications for the electoral process and upcoming elections.
