
The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on Monday presided over the 8th Executive Council meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council at the Government House in Dutse.
The high-level gathering brought together traditional rulers, state governors, security chiefs and other stakeholders from across Northern Nigeria to discuss issues affecting the region, including security, peace, unity and socio-economic development.
The Sultan, who chairs the council, led the meeting alongside Umar Namadi, the host governor. Also in attendance were Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Tunji Disu, senior government officials and other notable figures.

Among the traditional rulers present were Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, Lawal Hassan Gummi and Samaila Muhammadu Mera.
Others included Sanusi Mohammed Ahmad Asha, Umar Farouk II and Muhammad Hameem Nuhu Sanusi, alongside several first-class emirs from across the region.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between traditional institutions and government authorities in addressing contemporary challenges facing Northern Nigeria.

Participants stressed the need to promote peace, enhance security, foster unity and support sustainable development across the region.
The council reaffirmed the role of traditional rulers in nation-building, conflict resolution, community development and the preservation of cultural values.

The meeting concluded with prayers for peace, stability and prosperity in Nigeria, as well as wisdom and good health for leaders at all levels. Further details from the deliberations are expected to be released later.
