African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticized a Federal High Court ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties.
Sowore, in a statement posted on his verified X account on Monday, described the judgment as undemocratic and contrary to the principles of a multi-party political system.
He argued that deregistering political parties that had already completed their primary elections and were preparing for the 2027 general elections was unjustifiable.
“It shall not stand. I totally condemn the deregistration of political parties that have already concluded their primaries and are preparing for general elections. Such an action is undemocratic and unjustifiable in a multi-party democracy,” Sowore stated.
His reaction followed a ruling delivered on Monday by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which ordered INEC to immediately deregister the ADC, Accord Party, and several other political parties from participating in the 2027 general elections.
The judgment has sparked debate among political stakeholders, with concerns being raised over its implications for Nigeria’s democratic process and political participation ahead of the next election cycle.
