Emir of Ilorin Felicitates Muslims on Hijrah 1448AH

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, 1448AH.

In a goodwill message issued on Tuesday through his spokesman, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, the monarch described the Hijrah—the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah—as a timeless symbol of sacrifice, perseverance and unwavering faith in Allah.

According to the Emir, the historic migration laid the foundation for justice, brotherhood and community development, values he said remain essential for promoting peace and stability in today’s world.

“Hijrah teaches us that difficult times do not last forever. As we enter 1448AH, I urge Muslims to renew their commitment to piety, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity,” he said.

The Emir called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for national unity, peace and economic prosperity. He also urged religious and political leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric and instead promote messages that foster harmony and strengthen national cohesion.

Sulu-Gambari commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for supporting religious harmony in Kwara State and encouraged young people to emulate the discipline, courage and moral values of the early Muslims by shunning violence, drug abuse and other social vices.

The monarch also paid tribute to the late Prof. Yusuf Lanre Badmos, acknowledging his contributions to the National Hijrah Organisation, Kwara State Chapter, and the promotion of Islamic values. He prayed for Allah’s mercy and eternal reward for the deceased.

The Emir concluded by praying for good health, abundant blessings and the acceptance of acts of worship in the new Islamic year.
