The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has endorsed the House of Representatives Minority Caucus’ call on President Bola Tinubu to either demonstrate effective leadership or step down from office.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its Acting National Chairman, Chief Peter Ameh, the coalition said it shares the caucus’ concerns over the state of the nation and believes the administration must urgently address the challenges confronting Nigerians.
CUPP argued that elected leaders have a responsibility to improve the lives of citizens and should be held accountable when governance falls short of public expectations.
“In a sane clime, any elected official who fails to deliver the benefits of good governance should honourably resign,” the statement said.
The coalition urged President Tinubu to take decisive action on key national issues, including insecurity, economic hardship and the overall welfare of citizens.
“President Bola Tinubu and his administration must step up immediately to address the pressing issues of insecurity, economic hardship and the general wellbeing of Nigerians. Leadership is not a right but a responsibility,” CUPP stated.
The group added that where such responsibility is not being effectively discharged, resignation remains an honourable option.
CUPP also called on the President to implement visible measures aimed at easing the burden on Nigerians and improving living conditions across the country.
The coalition said it would continue to monitor developments and speak out on issues it considers important to the interests of the Nigerian people.
