NDLEA Destroys Cannabis Farms in Adamawa

Adamawa State has recorded a new dimension in illicit drug activities, with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) confirming the discovery and destruction of three cannabis plantations across the state.

The Adamawa State Commander of the NDLEA, Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed this on Friday during an event marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Yola.

According to Abubakar, operatives destroyed a 1.5-hectare cannabis farm in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area, as well as one-hectare plantations in Mubi South and Mubi North local government areas.

The commander also highlighted the agency’s achievements over the past year, revealing that 583 suspected drug offenders were arrested between June 2025 and June 2026, while 270 of them have been convicted.

He added that the command seized about five tonnes of illicit substances, including tramadol, diazepam, codeine, and methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice.”

Speaking at the event, Abubakar said drug abuse continues to fuel criminal activities, stressing that many violent crimes are linked to the use of illicit substances.

Guest speaker Dr. Stephen John echoed the concern, warning that criminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their methods and weaponry. He urged governments at all levels to strengthen security strategies and intensify efforts to combat drug abuse and related crimes.

The NDLEA said the destruction of the cannabis farms underscores its commitment to tackling both the cultivation and distribution of illegal drugs in Adamawa State.
