Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has said his diplomatic appointment involves concurrent accreditation to four countries in Central and South America, making the process different from that of other ambassadorial nominees.
Omokri made the clarification in a Facebook post amid public discussions over the timeline for recently announced diplomatic appointments by the Federal Government.
According to the former presidential aide, President Bola Tinubu nominated him to serve simultaneously in four countries, a responsibility that requires approval from each host nation before the appointment can be finalised.
“His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, chose to nominate me as an Ambassador to serve concurrently in four countries in Central and South America,” Omokri wrote.
“Therefore, the processes involved for me, as an envoy to four different nations with four different Presidents, differ from those of others,” he added.
Omokri made the remarks while responding to a social media user identified as Kachi, who questioned why his appointment appeared to be taking longer than that of another ambassadorial appointee, Professor Yakubu.
He dismissed suggestions of any rivalry, saying he does not compare his progress with that of others and urged critics not to view the appointments as a competition.
Omokri maintained that the additional diplomatic procedures required for multiple accreditations account for the difference in the processing of his appointment.
