Oyo Teachers Suspend Indefinite Strike Over Security

The Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers has suspended its indefinite strike following a review of the security situation across the state.

The union had embarked on the industrial action after the abduction of schoolchildren in Ogbomoso, located in Orire Local Government Area, citing concerns over the safety of teachers and students.

In a statement jointly signed by the state NUT Chairman, Hassan Fatai, and Secretary, Olukayode Salami, the union said the decision to suspend the strike followed consultations and appeals by the Oyo State Government and other stakeholders.

The union said it reassessed the prevailing security situation before deciding to end the industrial action, clearing the way for teachers to resume classroom activities.

The NUT had initially demanded stronger security measures in schools across the state to safeguard both pupils and education workers in the wake of the kidnapping incident.
