Former Secretary to the Benue State Government, Mr. David Salifu, has died after being shot by suspected bandits on the Wukari–Makurdi road.

Salifu was reportedly attacked on the outskirts of Wukari while travelling from Wukari to Makurdi. According to reports, armed men stopped his vehicle, forced him out, and ordered him onto a motorcycle. The situation turned violent when he resisted, and he was shot.

He was first rushed to a hospital in Wukari for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi, where he died.

A source said the Federal University, Wukari provided an ambulance and a medical team to assist with moving him. There were initial plans to airlift him to Abuja for further treatment.

Salifu served as SSG in Benue State and was a prominent political figure.
