
Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, AFUSTA, on Friday inaugurated its 4th Governing Council, six months after the Kebbi State Government dissolved the previous council.
The inauguration was performed by the Executive Governor of Kebbi State and Visitor to the University, Dr. Nasir Idris, also known as Kauran Gwandu.
The new Council is chaired by Prof. Muhammad Kaoje Abubakar, Magatakardan Zuru, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the University and former Minister of Science and Technology.
Other members include the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation.
Also on the Council are the Permanent Secretary of the Kebbi State Ministry of Higher Education, the Permanent Secretary of the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice, four representatives of the Senate, one representative of Convocation, and two other representatives.
The dissolution of the previous Governing Council in January 2026 was part of the state government’s decision to reconstitute boards and councils of tertiary institutions in Kebbi State. The government said the move was to reposition the institutions for better performance and accountability.
Governor Idris, while inaugurating the new council, urged members to uphold transparency, ensure due process, and work towards improving academic standards and infrastructure at AFUSTA.
