Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy has become the first African artiste to top the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart.
The Grammy Award-winning singer achieved the milestone with “Dai Dai,” his collaborative FIFA World Cup song with Colombian pop star Shakira, which climbed to No. 1 on this week’s Billboard Global 200 chart.
The track also claimed the top spot on the Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. chart and rose 12 places to a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.
The achievement marks another major international milestone for Burna Boy, further cementing his status as one of Africa’s most successful global music stars.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian singer Tems also recorded a significant chart success, as her single “What You Need” climbed five places to a new peak of No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 after spending 15 weeks on the chart.
The song recently reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban Radio Airplay chart.
With the feat, Tems remains the first solo African artiste to top both airplay charts, extending her growing influence on the global music scene.
