Final South Africa Evacuation Flight Arrives Wednesday

The Federal Government has announced that the final evacuation flight bringing stranded Nigerians home from South Africa is scheduled to arrive in Lagos on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said the fifth and final Air Peace evacuation flight will depart Johannesburg at 1:30 a.m. and is expected to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 6:30 a.m.

The flight will transport 315 Nigerians who opted to return home following recent xenophobic attacks and security concerns in parts of South Africa.

The ministry said four previous evacuation flights had already brought 1,141 Nigerians back to the country since the operation began on June 11, 2026. In addition, 66 Nigerians were evacuated through a private arrangement, while another 39 returned on an Air Peace-sponsored flight.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians abroad and expressed appreciation to Air Peace and other stakeholders for supporting the evacuation exercise.
