The presidential candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, have paid tribute to the late founder of All Christians Fellowship Mission, Rev. Dr. William Okoye, describing him as a devoted servant of God who dedicated his life to faith, integrity and national transformation.
Rev. Okoye, a former chaplain at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, recently passed away, prompting an outpouring of tributes from political, religious and public figures across Nigeria.
In a condolence message shared on his X account on Thursday, Obi described the late cleric as an elder brother whose ministry inspired countless people to live purposeful and righteous lives.
“I received the news of the homegoing of my elder brother, Rev. Dr. William Okoye, with profound sadness,” Obi said, adding that the cleric belonged to a rare generation of spiritual leaders whose impact was measured by the lives they transformed rather than the size of their platforms.
The former Anambra State governor said Okoye’s teachings, leadership and personal example encouraged discipline, hope and integrity, describing his death as a major loss to his family, the All Christians Fellowship Mission, the Christian community and Nigeria.
Obi urged Nigerians to celebrate the cleric’s legacy of service and selflessness, expressing hope that his life would continue to inspire future generations to pursue justice, peace and compassion.
Also paying tribute, SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo described Okoye as one of Nigeria’s distinguished Christian leaders whose ministry transcended denominational boundaries.
Adebayo said the late cleric was “a voice of truth, peace, justice and national reconciliation” whose commitment to raising leaders of character left a lasting legacy.
He extended his condolences to Okoye’s family, the All Christians Fellowship Mission, the Christian Association of Nigeria, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and Christians worldwide, praying for strength for those mourning the revered cleric.
