Petition Seeks Probe of Peter Obi Over Flight Identity Claims

A petition has been submitted to the Federal Government calling for an investigation into Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi over allegations that he travelled with a passenger who allegedly used multiple identities on commercial flights.

The petition, dated July 12, 2026, was addressed to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and copied to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Written by an individual identifying himself as a concerned employee in Nigeria’s aviation industry, the petition requests an urgent investigation into what it describes as repeated breaches of aviation security, regulatory compliance and passenger identification procedures involving Obi and a female passenger.

According to the petitioner, the woman, described as one of Obi’s media aides, had previously been banned by Air Peace over alleged misconduct and confrontations at airports. The petition claims she continued travelling on the airline using different names after the ban.

The petitioner further alleged that Obi facilitated the arrangement, enabling the passenger to continue flying under different identities despite the airline’s restrictions.

The petition states that such actions, if proven, could undermine aviation security, compromise passenger identification procedures and interfere with an airline’s ability to enforce its safety policies.

It also alleges that airport personnel were prevented from carrying out identity verification whenever Obi travelled with the passenger. The petitioner claimed that supporting documents, including flight tickets and Passenger Name Record (PNR) details, were attached to the complaint.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Peter Obi nor his representatives had publicly responded to the allegations. The Ministry of Aviation, NCAA, EFCC and Air Peace have also not issued official statements on the petition.
