Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a Sudanese man suspected of being a foreign terrorist collaborator and a Ghanaian woman believed to be an illegal immigrant during a security operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, said the suspects were apprehended by troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion at about 11:48 a.m. on July 19 in the Lassa, Dille General Area.

According to the military, the Sudanese suspect, identified as Musa Fashir, 32, is believed to have links with terrorist elements operating in the North-East.

“Preliminary intelligence indicates that the suspect has established links with terrorist elements, further highlighting attempts by foreign actors to support insurgent activities in the region,” the statement said.

The second suspect, Mary Florence, 36, who claimed to be a Ghanaian national, was arrested as an alleged illegal immigrant. The military said investigations are ongoing to verify her identity and determine the circumstances surrounding her presence in the area.

Both suspects are currently in military custody undergoing profiling and interrogation to establish their identities, determine the extent of their activities and ascertain any links to terrorist or transnational criminal networks.

Goni said the arrests underscore the effectiveness of the military’s intelligence-led operations in disrupting terrorist activities and preventing the infiltration of foreign fighters into the North-East.

He added that Operation Hadin Kai remains committed to dismantling terrorist logistics, financing and support networks, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
