Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the controversy surrounding the 2026 federal budget, alleging that recent developments have further weakened public confidence in the government.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Frank said the recurring controversies over budget allocations had raised concerns about transparency and accountability in public spending.

His comments follow allegations of questionable provisions in the 2026 budget, including a ₦12.8 trillion allocation for the Service Wide Vote, ₦8 billion earmarked for churches and mosques, and a controversial ₦1.3 billion allocation to the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, whose legal status has come under scrutiny.

Frank argued that the repeated controversies surrounding government expenditure have fueled public distrust, adding that many Nigerians are questioning the integrity of those entrusted with managing public resources.

According to him, the administration has failed to strengthen accountability mechanisms and ensure that public officials accused of corruption are held responsible for their actions.

“The recent revelations and controversy surrounding the 2026 Federal Budget have further reinforced the widespread perception that this administration represents one of the most troubling governments in Nigeria’s recent history,” he said.

He added that the allegations have created the impression that the government is not doing enough to combat corruption, claiming that public officials accused of financial misconduct are being protected rather than prosecuted.

Frank maintained that stronger oversight, transparency and accountability are necessary to restore public confidence in the management of government finances.
