The Kwara State Government has called on traditional rulers and district heads across the state to step up sensitization and ensure full compliance with the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, made the call on Saturday while speaking with journalists.

Buge was represented at the exercise by the State Director in the Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Mary Mustapha.

EMIRATE RADIO 98.5 FM team that went round areas such as; Sango, Ipata market, Oja Oba, Post-Graduate Office, Unity, Challenge, Gambari, Adifa among other areas in the Ilorin metropolis reported gathered that there was absolute compliance by residents and commuters as security agencies were sighted performing their duty diligently.

Hajia Buge however emphasized the need for public cooperation to maintain a clean and healthy environment across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

She urged traditional rulers and district heads to leverage their influence to educate residents in their communities on the importance of remaining indoors during the designated sanitation period and actively participating in cleaning their surroundings.

The Commissioner noted that the government has sustained public awareness campaigns through radio and television jingles to remind citizens of the exercise and its benefits to public health.

She stressed that the success of the monthly sanitation exercise depends largely on grassroots mobilization, and traditional institutions remain critical partners in achieving the state’s environmental goals.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with community leaders to ensure Kwara remains clean, safe, and healthy for all residents.
