The 176 residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State who were abducted by gunmen earlier this year have regained their freedom following a joint security operation.

The victims, who had been in captivity since February, were rescued on Wednesday, ending months of uncertainty for their families and the community.

The member representing Gwanabe/Gweria/Bani/Adena Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed, confirmed the development and commended the efforts of the Federal Government, the Kwara State Government and security agencies.

“Yes, the Woro kidnap victims have been released. I’m very excited about this development. We give thanks to President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and our security operatives,” the lawmaker said.

A senior Kwara State Government official also confirmed the rescue, describing it as a major breakthrough and praising everyone involved in the operation.

Last week, Kaiama Local Government Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, dismissed claims that the government had abandoned the abducted residents, assuring the public that efforts were ongoing to secure their release.

Danladi had said the state government was working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies while strengthening security across Kaiama Local Government Area to combat criminal activities and protect lives and property.

The successful rescue marks a significant milestone in the ongoing security efforts to address kidnapping and other crimes in the area.
