Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested four suspected logistics suppliers to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during separate operations in Yobe and Borno states, the military has said.

In a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Captain Mohammed Goni, the military said troops of the 159 Battalion arrested two suspects in Geidam, Yobe State, following intelligence on alleged terrorist activities. The suspects are believed to have been supplying narcotics and other materials to insurgents.

Items recovered from them included suspected cannabis, mobile phones, power banks, knives, torchlights, cigarette rolls, pharmaceutical products, identification and bank cards, as well as cash.

In a separate operation, troops of Sector 3 Garrison, working with the 242 Reconnaissance Battalion, arrested two additional suspects in Monguno, Borno State. Preliminary investigations indicated they were involved in transporting food and other essential supplies to ISWAP fighters operating in parts of Kukawa Local Government Area.

Recovered items included biscuits, milk, sugar, soap, garri, headlamps, lighters, mobile phones, herbal medicine and cash.

Meanwhile, troops on routine patrol along the Gezuwa axis of Konduga Local Government Area intercepted 20 relatives of suspected Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) members. The group, comprising men, women and children, reportedly fled a terrorist enclave due to intensified military operations and has been handed over to military intelligence for screening.

The military said all suspects and recovered exhibits remain under investigation as efforts continue to dismantle terrorist supply networks across the North-East.
