The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has removed six Commanding Officers of the Nigeria Police Force Mobile Police (MOPOL) and Operations units attached to TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following allegations of extortion involving personnel under their command.

The officers were reportedly removed after a police investigative panel set up by the IGP indicted them over claims that they collected ₦70,000 monthly kickbacks from officers deployed to provide security for the oil company’s facilities.

According to reports, the affected commanders were quietly relieved of their positions last week as the police authorities continued investigations into the alleged misconduct.

A source familiar with the matter said the investigation initially faced challenges because some affected officers were hesitant to speak openly about the alleged scheme.

The police authorities have not publicly disclosed further details about the investigation or possible disciplinary actions against the officers involved.

The development comes as the Nigeria Police Force continues efforts to strengthen accountability and address allegations of misconduct within its ranks.
