Super Falcons Beat Egypt to Reach WAFCON Quarter-Finals

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after defeating Egypt 6-2 in a dramatic final group-stage encounter in Rabat.

The victory saw the 10-time champions finish their group campaign with enough points to progress after the qualification scenario depended on both their result against Egypt and the outcome of the match between Malawi and Zambia.

Nigeria entered the game with three points from their opening two matches and needed a win to boost their chances of advancing. Despite Egypt having already been eliminated from the competition, the North African side put up a strong challenge before eventually falling to the Super Falcons.

The result helped Nigeria secure a spot in the last eight as they continue their pursuit of another WAFCON title.

The Super Falcons, who remain the most successful team in the history of the tournament, will now turn their attention to the quarter-final stage as they aim to extend their dominance in African women’s football.
