Friends Announce Candlelight Night for Late Actress Temitope Osoba

Friends of late Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba have announced a candlelight and artists’ night to honour her memory.

The event, tagged “An Evening of Love, Music & Memories,” is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, at LTV 8 (Blueroof), Ikeja, Lagos. According to an announcement shared on Osoba’s Instagram page, the programme will begin at 5pm.

The organisers said the gathering would celebrate Osoba’s life, creativity and contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry. “Her voice, her art, her spirit… will remain in our hearts,” they said.

Osoba died at the age of 40. Her death was announced on Wednesday by fellow actor Alesh Sanni, who described her as his “dearest sister” and recalled the memories they shared.

Another actress, Adeyemo Seilat, also mourned Osoba in an Instagram post, describing her death as painful and wishing her eternal rest.

Osoba had publicly spoken about her battle with cancer about two years before her death and sought support for her treatment. After her recovery, she announced her return to the movie industry in August 2025, describing the experience as a life-changing journey.

At the time, she said she hoped to use her platform to promote cancer awareness and support others facing similar challenges. She also expressed interest in acting roles, endorsements and event collaborations.

Meanwhile, Osoba’s family has urged the public and media to disregard reports about the circumstances of her death that were not authorised by them. In a statement shared through her official social media account, the family described some circulating reports as “false, speculative, and entirely unauthorized.”

The family appealed for privacy as it mourns the actress and said any official information would be released through authorised representatives or her official channels.

Osoba was known for her roles in Yoruba-language Nollywood productions. The August 11 event is expected to bring together family, friends, colleagues, artistes and admirers to celebrate her life and legacy.
