The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has called for stronger collaboration with the media to improve public awareness of the importance of obtaining and safeguarding the National Identification Number (NIN).

The Kwara State Coordinator of NIMC, Mallam Idris Abubakar, made the call when he led a delegation of the commission on a courtesy visit to Emirate Radio 98.5FM in Ilorin.

Abubakar described the media, particularly radio, as an effective platform for reaching Nigerians with accurate and timely information on identity management. He commended Emirate Radio for its commitment to public enlightenment and expressed optimism that the partnership would promote identity registration across Kwara State.

The Head of NIMC’s Media and Communication Unit, Mr Tope Adesina, also stressed the importance of sustained collaboration with the station. He said regular public sensitisation would help residents understand the benefits of the NIN and other identity management services while encouraging greater enrolment.

Adesina added that improved awareness of NIN services could enhance residents’ access to various government and private-sector services that require identity verification.

Responding, the General Manager of Emirate Radio 98.5FM, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona, welcomed the delegation and assured the commission of the station’s readiness to support public enlightenment initiatives.

Arowona said the station would continue to use its reach and credibility to promote programmes capable of improving the lives of residents and contributing to national development.

Other members of the NIMC delegation included the Head of Corporate Services, Mrs Adesina Adenike; Head of ESNI, Mr Sanusi Bolaji; Madam Famuyiwa Olawumi; Head of Administration, Mr Adewuyi Hammed; and Head of IEU, Mr Tosho Abubakar.

The delegation was also received by the Station Head of Emirate Radio, Mrs Bukola Omoshewo, alongside members of the station’s management team. Both organisations expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen NIN awareness, increase enrolment and improve communication with residents across Kwara State.
