Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, formerly of the music duo P-Square, broke down in tears while recounting a difficult period in his life when his then-girlfriend, Lola, became pregnant when he was 27.
Speaking in a recent video shared on his Instagram page, Peter said he chose to publicly announce the pregnancy himself because he did not want the news to come from someone else.
He recalled making the announcement at the Soundcity Awards after P-Square received an award. According to him, he dedicated the award to God, the group’s fans and those who had supported their career before dedicating it to the mother of his unborn child.
Peter alleged that his brothers and former group members, Jude and Paul Okoye, subsequently walked out and objected to the announcement, arguing that it could damage the group’s career.
He further alleged that they pressured Lola to terminate the pregnancy and accused her of trying to trap him. Peter also claimed that an email was forged to suggest that the unborn child was not his.
The singer became emotional while recounting the experience, describing it as one of the difficult periods he faced during his early career.
