The University of Ilorin has launched the Continuing Medical Education Technology (CMES) application, reaffirming its commitment to using technology to improve education, research and healthcare delivery.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, unveiled the technology on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

Egbewole described the initiative as a significant milestone that would expand access to technology-driven learning and innovation. He said the CMES platform would enhance digital learning, strengthen research, promote digital literacy and support professional development among staff and students.

The Acting Chief Medical Director of UITH, Prof. Sikiru Abayomi Biliaminu, commended Techies Without Borders and its founder, Prof. Emmanuel Idowu, for providing the technology. He stressed the need for continuous training to ensure users can maximise its benefits and pledged that the device would be properly secured and utilised to improve hospital services.

The university’s Liaison Officer, Prof. Peter Adeoye, said the technology would provide real-time access to health information, support clinical decision-making and facilitate timely access to medical resources.

Idowu, who is Nigeria Liaison for Techies Without Borders, said the CMES platform uses artificial intelligence and cloud computing to provide instant access to educational and healthcare resources. He disclosed that the application is currently being deployed in about 20 countries.

The partnership was facilitated by the Centre for Internationalisation and Strategic Partnerships, which described the initiative as part of the university’s broader drive to promote innovation, capacity building and international collaboration.
