Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has accused his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola, of influencing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to freeze the state government’s accounts ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Adeleke made the allegation on Tuesday during an Arise TV town hall meeting for candidates contesting the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election.

The governor alleged that Oyetola, who is now the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, told the EFCC that President Bola Tinubu had directed the agency to freeze the accounts.

“I am sure he (Oyetola) told EFCC to freeze our account, that Mr President said it should be frozen,” Adeleke said.

He, however, said the situation changed after President Tinubu contacted him personally, adding that the President expressed concern over the development.

“So, when Mr President called, a lot of people were shocked. Because when Mr President called, he said he was embarrassed. He said it is not acceptable because I told him, the President, that he would not want democracy to go down; he wants a free and fair election,” Adeleke said.

The governor further accused Oyetola of using his relationship with Tinubu to pursue political interests in Osun. He also alleged that his predecessor had not moved on from his defeat in the previous governorship election.

Adeleke is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, which he represented when he won the 2022 election.

Oyetola has not, in the statement provided, responded to Adeleke’s latest allegations.
