The Kano State Fire Service has contained two separate fire outbreaks at an Access Bank branch in Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, and a residential building in Sabuwar Gandu, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

The service disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Abdullahi.

The first incident occurred at about 1:17 p.m. at the Access Bank branch in Dawanau after a distress call was received by the Emergency Response Unit.

Firefighters from the Dawanau Fire Station found a one-storey building housing the bank on fire. A Mikano generator was completely engulfed, while an electrical transformer was slightly affected.

The firefighters contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The second incident was reported at about 6:19 p.m. at Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, in Kumbotso Local Government Area. Firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Fire Station responded to the scene and found a residential building on fire.

The blaze affected two bedrooms, a parlour and a kitchen. Firefighters used one jet from the Commando 3 Sharada Fire Truck, supported by two additional jets from nearby factories, to bring the fire under control.

The cause of the second outbreak is also being investigated.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to remain vigilant and take preventive measures against fire outbreaks. He advised households to keep functional fire extinguishers and observe basic fire-safety precautions.

The service also urged residents to report fire incidents promptly to enable firefighters to respond quickly and minimise the risk of loss of lives and property.
