The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have met with the party’s governorship candidates for Bauchi, Sokoto and Borno states as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The meeting was held at Kwankwaso’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, and was attended by the party’s Bauchi governorship candidate, Ibrahim Kashim; Sokoto candidate, Dr Shamsu Aliyu; and Borno candidate, retired Admiral Sunusi Ibrahim.

The NDC said in a statement on Monday that the meeting provided an opportunity for the party’s leaders and candidates to review their readiness and discuss strategies for the forthcoming elections.

The discussions focused on coordinated campaign plans and efforts to strengthen the party’s structures in the three states, with the aim of securing victory for its candidates at various levels.

Also present were Buba Galadima, Kebbi State Chairman Alhaji Mustapha Umar and Sokoto State Chairman Alhaji Bello Yabo, alongside other party leaders.

The party said the meeting formed part of its broader preparations for the 2027 elections, particularly efforts to improve coordination among its candidates and political structures across the northern states.

Obi and Kwankwaso’s NDC presidential ticket was affirmed at the party’s special convention held in Abuja in May 2026.
