APC Chairman Urges Christians, Muslims to Reject Violence Ahead of 2027

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged Christians and Muslims to reject violence and promote unity as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

Yilwatda gave the warning at the Muslim World League (JIBWIS) International Security Conference, themed “Advancing Peaceful Coexistence.”

The APC chairman stressed the need for Nigerians of different faiths to work together, saying violence does not discriminate between Christians and Muslims.

“When violence comes, it doesn’t ask whether you are Christian or Muslim before it destroys either your home, humanity, or dignity,” he said.

Yilwatda, who identified himself as a Christian, recalled growing up with a Muslim Chief Imam who was a close friend of his father. He said his personal experience reinforced the importance of peaceful coexistence between followers of different religions.

He said Nigeria’s religious diversity should be viewed as a shared reality rather than a source of division.

“We may worship differently, but we suffer together, we can build together, and ultimately, we can rise and fall together,” he said.

The APC chairman also challenged Nigerians to consider the kind of country they are building through their actions, urging citizens to resist divisions that could undermine national peace and unity.

He said maintaining peaceful relations between Christians and Muslims would be crucial to Nigeria’s stability as the country moves towards the 2027 elections.
