Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has received a newly deployed Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area, as part of efforts to strengthen security in the state.

AbdulRazaq disclosed this on Tuesday through a post on his official Facebook page after meeting with senior military commanders and receiving the troops.

The governor said the deployment would reinforce security operations and support efforts to tackle banditry, kidnapping, terrorism and other security threats in Kwara.

He received the troops alongside the General Officer Commanding 9 Division, Nigerian Army, and Joint Task Force Operation Savannah Shield, Major General Yakubu Yahaya, and the Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume.

“It was pleasant to welcome the troops to Kwara State. I thank the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for the swift deployment,” AbdulRazaq said.

He added that preparations were also underway for the deployment of another Army battalion to the Patigi axis of the state. According to him, the military is working to identify a suitable location for the new base.

AbdulRazaq commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the additional deployments, describing the move as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving security in Kwara.

He also welcomed the President’s recent approval of improved welfare packages for military personnel, saying better conditions would help boost the morale of troops fighting terrorism and other security threats.

The development follows President Tinubu’s approval in July for the establishment of a new Army battalion in Kwara. The Omu-Aran deployment is expected to strengthen the military’s presence in the area and surrounding communities, while the planned Patigi base will further expand security operations across the state.
