The Department of Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, Faculty of Social Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, has announced plans to hold its 2026 International Hybrid Conference on peace and security in Abuja.
The 2-day conference is scheduled to hold on 1st and 2nd September, 2026 at the NOUN International Conference Centre.
With the theme, “Peace, Security and the Human Condition: Navigating Conflict, Displacement, Gender Issues and Artificial Intelligence in a Fractured World,” the event aims to bring together scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and civil society actors to address the intersection of conflict, displacement, gender inequality and the rise of Artificial Intelligence.
According to the organisers, the contemporary world is facing complex crises including rising armed conflicts, forced displacement, widening gender inequalities, and the disruptive impact of AI. The conference, they said, will serve as a multidisciplinary forum to translate research into concrete global action in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
20 Sub-Themes to be Discussed
Key sub-themes include: Artificial Intelligence and Predictive Conflict Prevention; Gender, Peace and Security; Digital Peacebuilding; Insurgency and Counter-Terrorism in Africa; Forced Displacement and Human Security; Climate Change and Environmental Justice; Misinformation and AI-Generated Content; and Media Ethics and Local Peacebuilding Mechanisms, among others.
Call for Papers and Registration
The organisers are inviting interdisciplinary submissions from the social sciences and humanities including Political Science, Sociology, Law, Gender Studies, International Relations and Environmental Science.
Deadlines:
– Abstract submission: 9th August, 2026
– Full paper submission: 25th August, 2026
– Early bird registration: 30th July, 2026

– Early Bird: ₦15,000
– Regular: ₦20,000
– Postgraduate Student: ₦10,000

A Research Methodology Workshopwill also hold on Wednesday, 2nd September 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The hybrid workshop attracts a fee of ₦15,000.

The Vice Chancellor of NOUN, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma will serve as Chief Host, while the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Kamal Bello is the Host.
The Head of Department, Dr. Taiwo Philip Orebiyi is the Convener, with Professor Danladi A. Atu, DG, African Peace Institute and Social Studies, APIS, as Keynote Speaker.
