Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti has argued that President Bola Tinubu is not the primary problem facing Nigeria, pointing instead to institutional corruption and weaknesses in the country’s justice system.

Kuti made the remarks during a recent episode of the Good News Naija podcast, where he discussed Nigeria’s political and institutional challenges.

The musician said the country’s problems were deeply rooted in its institutions, arguing that a stronger judicial system would have addressed allegations against Tinubu before he contested the presidency.

“Do you think Tinubu is the problem? The judiciary that didn’t stop him from getting there in the first place is a problem. If all the allegations against him are true, how did he contest?” Kuti said.

He argued that the country’s leadership across different sectors was dominated by what he described as a corrupt elite, making it difficult to address systemic problems.

Kuti said Nigeria needed people with integrity in positions of authority and questioned how individuals facing serious allegations could rise to the highest political offices.

“If we had men and women of calibre and integrity, he wouldn’t have been able to contest in the first place,” he said.

He added that the persistence of systemic corruption was discouraging many young Nigerians and undermining their hopes for a better future.
