Police officers at the Zone One Headquarters in Kano have arrested five suspects over alleged impersonation and the production and distribution of counterfeit herbal medicines.

The suspects were arrested following a complaint filed on August 10 by Abdulwahab Abubakar, Chief Executive Officer of Abdulwahab Abubakar Herbal and Islamic Clinic in Bauchi.

According to the Zone One Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Hussaini, the suspects allegedly used Abubakar’s name, business identity and lectures to market and sell fake herbal products.

The police also alleged that some of the suspects collected money from members of the public in Abubakar’s name but failed to deliver the medicines ordered, while others sold counterfeit herbal mixtures capable of posing health risks.

The arrested suspects were identified as Muhammad Usman, Husaini Kabir, Hassan Kabir, Suleiman Salihu and Nura Garba.

The police said the suspects had made statements admitting their alleged involvement, while investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest other people linked to the activities.

The command warned the public to be cautious of fraudsters who exploit the identities and reputations of legitimate businesses to deceive customers.

It advised members of the public to verify the authenticity of products, vendors and payment channels before making transactions, particularly through social media platforms.

The police also warned individuals involved in similar activities to desist, stressing that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
