Actress Hayden Panettiere Dies at 36

American actress Hayden Panettiere, known for her roles in the television series Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36.

Panettiere died on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina, less than a week before her 37th birthday. Her death was confirmed by her father, Skip Panettiere, in a statement issued on behalf of the family.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” her father said, describing her as an “incredible light” who brought joy to those around her and millions of viewers.

Police said officers and emergency medical personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at about 1:50 p.m. on Sunday. Panettiere was identified and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation. However, preliminary findings did not indicate signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.

Panettiere gained international recognition for playing Claire Bennet in Heroes. She later starred as country music singer Juliette Barnes in Nashville, a performance that earned her two Golden Globe nominations.

She also appeared in films including Remember the Titans and entries in the Scream franchise.

Panettiere would have turned 37 on August 21. Her death has brought an end to a career that began in childhood and spanned television and film.
