Fubara: Limited Tenure Won’t Stop Development Projects

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured residents that the limited time remaining in his tenure will not prevent his administration from completing projects aimed at improving living conditions across the state.

Fubara spoke on Tuesday while inaugurating the 12.1-kilometre Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in Etche Local Government Area, saying his administration would continue to address critical infrastructure and development needs before leaving office in 2027.

The governor, who recently announced that he would not seek re-election in the 2027 governorship election, said governance should remain focused on meeting the needs of the people regardless of political circumstances.

“What is governance all about? Governance is providing services, protection of lives and properties. Governance is, you can’t solve every problem, but you must try to meet the needs of the people,” he said.

Fubara said the newly completed road would improve economic activities and security in Etche. He also promised to consider extending the road to Ndashi and completing the General Hospital in the area.

The governor said healthcare remained a priority despite the limited time left in his administration. He disclosed that the rehabilitation and reconstruction of zonal hospitals had commenced in Bori, Omoku and Degema, with some of the projects completed or nearing completion.

“The only one that we have not done much is that of Etche. But let me promise you that before we exit, there will be a standard hospital to cater for the people of Etche and Omuma,” he said.

Fubara said the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road was particularly significant because it was initiated in 2024 amid political challenges facing his administration. He said the government remained committed to the project until its completion.

“It was a long and difficult project, but I said even while we are going through these challenges, we still have to be working because at the end of the day what posterity records is not the reason for your failures but the little things that you achieved,” he said.

The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, said the 12.1-kilometre road connects Egwi, Afara and Mba to the Etche Local Government headquarters at Okehi. He said the project included 10.2 kilometres of drainage, culverts, road shoulders and other ancillary works.

Nwofor said the road was awarded on October 29, 2024, and completed on schedule, describing it as part of the Fubara administration’s efforts to deliver quality infrastructure across Rivers State.
