The Kwara State Police Command has commenced Operation VELVET to enforce traffic regulations, improve road safety and protect the lives and property of road users across the state.
The operation began on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The command said the initiative would focus on ensuring motorists comply with traffic laws and that vehicles on the roads have valid registration documents and other legally required papers.
Motorists have been advised to ensure that their vehicles and documentation are in order before using the roads.
According to the police, Operation VELVET is a continuous enforcement exercise. Motorists found violating traffic regulations or operating vehicles without the required documents will face appropriate sanctions in line with existing laws and due process.
The Commissioner of Police urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with officers deployed for the operation, obey traffic regulations and adopt responsible driving practices.
The command said the exercise was part of its broader commitment to reducing road-related risks, protecting lives and property, and maintaining peace and public order across Kwara State.
