NYSC DG Warns Corps Members Against 2027 Campaigns
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, has warned corps members against participating in political campaigns or using their NYSC identity and social media accounts to promote political parties or candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Nafiu issued the warning on Wednesday during a visit to the 2026 Batch B Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Katsina.
He also urged corps members to guard against misinformation and AI-generated content, stressing the need to verify information before sharing or reposting it online.
“As corps members, you are not permitted to campaign for any political party or candidate,” Nafiu said. He warned that appropriate action would be taken if corps members were found using their NYSC identity or social media platforms for political promotion.
He said advances in artificial intelligence had made it increasingly difficult to distinguish authentic photographs and videos from manipulated content, making verification essential.
Nafiu noted that corps members would have an important role in the 2027 elections, as many are expected to serve as ad hoc electoral personnel. He urged them to take the responsibility seriously and contribute to credible, free and fair elections.
He also encouraged the corps members to acquire vocational and entrepreneurial skills through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
Katsina State NYSC Coordinator, Evans Okwor, said 1,333 corps members—759 males and 574 females—had registered for the orientation exercise. He added that 363 camp officials were involved in the programme.
The orientation course, which began on August 5, is scheduled to end on August 25, 2026.
