Senator Saliu Mustapha representing Kwara Central has dismissed a viral 2022 letter attributed to him as fake, insisting he never entered a one-term agreement with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, August 21, 2026, Mustapha said the circulating document was forged and did not match what he signed.
“That document is fake. That is not the document I signed. They even misspelt my name. Everything about it looks fake,” the Senator said.
The letter dated May 21, 2022 and addressed to Governor AbdulRazaq had claimed that Mustapha pledged to serve only one term in the Senate and would take directives from the governor.
Mustapha denied signing any such agreement and challenged the governor to “swear with the Quran.”
He, however, admitted to writing an original letter at the time, but said its content was different. According to him, the authentic letter stated his intention to contest for a higher office after one Senate term with his focus then being the Kwara governorship, not the Senate.
“In the original letter I signed, I stated clearly that in my bid for higher office, I’ll go to Senate for only a term. That is why I didn’t contest for Senate. It was governorship,” he explained.
The Senator alleged that Dr Ghali approached him on behalf of the governor’s camp, citing concerns over his popularity. He said he was informed that the Senate seat was being reserved for a member of the AbdulRazaq family while he was expected to pursue the 2027 governorship race.
“They said they are threatened about my popularity and they want to reserve Senate seat for the AbdulRazaq family. We are aware you want to go for governorship in 2027. I told them it is fine. Any of the AbdulRazaq’s family can go for Senate. We will support each other,” Mustapha stated.
He further alleged that the fake letter was circulated to frustrate his political ambitions.
“In a bid to frustrate us, the governor went to forge this document,” he claimed.
In a viral video, the Turaki of Ilorin confidently said: “I will have defeated Governor AbdulRahman by 12pm before 1 O’clock insha Allah. It is going to be an election that Nigerians will be waiting to hear the result.”
