The United States military has launched a new round of training for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of ongoing security cooperation between both countries.

The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced the development in a statement released on Monday, saying the training is taking place at Operating Location Bauchi.

According to AFRICOM, the programme is designed to strengthen the operational capacity of Nigerian military personnel, improve battlefield readiness and deepen cooperation between the armed forces of Nigeria and the United States.

The command said the training focuses on equipping participants with skills needed to respond to evolving security threats and enhance coordination during military operations.

The programme covers a range of specialised areas, including Combat Lifesaver and Tactical Combat Casualty Care, weapons familiarisation, camouflage techniques, water treatment and testing, explosive ordnance disposal, small-unit tactics and unmanned aircraft systems.

AFRICOM said the exercises are part of a broader partnership aimed at sharing military expertise, building the capacity of Nigerian forces and strengthening professional relationships between personnel from both countries.

“The US and Nigerian forces are conducting a series of training events at Operating Location Bauchi aimed at sharing military expertise, strengthening partner capacity and building relationships between service members from both nations,” the command said.

The latest exercise forms part of continued US-Nigeria military collaboration to improve security operations and enhance the readiness of Nigerian troops.
