A Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, have died in separate circumstances following an alleged domestic dispute at their residence in the Akinode/Ibogun community of Ogun State.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 25, after an argument between the couple allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation. Adenike was reportedly found unconscious and injured, while Odukoya was said to have left the residence.

A former Chairman of the Community Development Association, Adejimi Olawumi, said residents raised an alarm after hearing cries for help. He said he later entered the couple’s home and found Adenike lying in a pool of blood.

Olawumi said community members searched for Odukoya after discovering that he was missing. They later learnt that the cleric had reportedly been struck by a vehicle in the Ifo area and was taken to a hospital by the police, where his identity was confirmed.

The cleric’s younger sister also claimed in a video circulating online that the couple had a history of disagreements. She said they had visited her in April following an earlier altercation, which was eventually resolved at a police station.

She said she had advised the couple to be patient with each other and avoid fighting, adding that other people had previously intervened to settle their disputes.

According to reports, Adenike was buried on the day of the incident, while Odukoya was buried on Wednesday, September 2. Footage also showed clerics conducting burial rites for Odukoya at an undisclosed location.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remained unclear at the time of filing. It was also not immediately established whether Odukoya’s reported road accident was directly connected to the earlier domestic altercation.

Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident. The command’s deputy spokesman, Opeyemi Oluborode, said, “The police is investigating the incident.”
