Two female students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, who were abducted along the road linking the institution to Ihiagwa community, have regained their freedom.

The students were abducted on Sunday, September 6, 2026, during a security incident in the area.

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu, confirmed their release in a statement on Friday.

Ezugwu said the students were receiving medical care and psychological support at the university’s Medical Centre.

“The students are currently receiving medicare and psychological support in FUTO Medical Centre,” he said.

He added that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie, had visited the students and interacted with them following their release.

The university management did not disclose details of how the students were released or whether any arrests had been made in connection with the abduction.
