Former Director-General of the State Security Service and pioneer Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Chief Albert Korubo Horsfall, has died.

His death was announced in a statement on Friday by his son, Donald Horsfall, who described him as a beloved patriarch. The family said he died peacefully after a life dedicated to public service, family and community.

Horsfall was a prominent figure in Rivers State and national public service, having served in several senior positions and contributed to the development of the state and country.

The family described him as a distinguished public servant, statesman and administrator who served Nigeria with dedication, integrity and patriotism.

“While the family mourns this irreparable loss, we take comfort in the extraordinary life he lived and the indelible mark he left on the sands of time,” the statement said.

Donald Horsfall said his father’s memory would continue to inspire those who knew him and benefited from his knowledge, experience and compassion.

The family also said Horsfall, regarded as one of the founding fathers of Rivers State, made significant contributions to the state and the country. His counsel and commitment to justice, peace and good governance, it said, earned him the respect of successive generations of leaders and citizens.

During his career, Horsfall served as Director-General of the SSS, pioneer Director-General of the NIA and chairman of the former Oil Mineral Producing Areas Development Commission, among other positions.

The family said funeral arrangements and other activities would be announced in due course.
