The Ogun State Government has released N6.75 billion to settle gratuity and Additional Pension Benefits owed to retirees in the state.
The Head of Service, Olanrewaju Saka, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the funds were part of efforts to address outstanding pension obligations and improve the welfare of retired public workers.
Saka said N2.751 billion had been released to pay gratuity to 432 beneficiaries, while a further N4 billion was allocated for Additional Pension Benefits for eligible retirees from July 2025 to date.
He said the government remained committed to ensuring that workers who served the state received their retirement benefits despite competing demands on public resources.
Saka explained that the Additional Pension Benefit (APB) was introduced to bridge the gap between what retirees would have received under the former Defined Benefit Scheme and their entitlements under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
Under the CPS, workers accumulate retirement savings in Retirement Savings Accounts. However, some retirees may receive lower benefits than they would have been entitled to under the previous scheme. The APB provides an additional payment from the state government to eligible retirees to partly address the difference.
“The APB is separate from the funds in retirees’ Retirement Savings Accounts and does not reduce the savings accumulated in those accounts,” Saka said.
He said the latest release reflected the administration’s commitment to improving the financial security and dignity of retirees, adding that outstanding pension and gratuity obligations would continue to be addressed in a systematic and sustainable manner.
Saka also assured retirees of continued transparency and engagement in the administration of their benefits. He urged serving public officers to ensure their pension records and documentation remained accurate and up to date.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Dapo Abiodun administration to developing a pension system that would give public servants greater confidence and financial security in retirement.
