The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is building a 13-member executive structure in every polling unit across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections as part of efforts to strengthen its grassroots organisation and ensure nationwide representation.

Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central, disclosed this in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday. He said the structure would help the party provide polling agents across the country on election day.

“NDC has a structure where every polling unit, we have 13 people in that polling unit dedicated to duty,” Umeh said, adding that the arrangement is provided for in the party’s constitution.

He said the party was expanding the structure nationwide and would rely on candidates and other party members to recruit and mobilise polling agents.

Umeh said the NDC had fielded candidates for all positions being contested in the 2027 elections, arguing that their presence would help extend the party’s organisation to polling units.

“When you have candidates, they mobilise agents. When you don’t have candidates, you will be empty in those places,” he said.

The senator said he was also establishing a separate network of 20 coordinators in each polling unit to complement the party’s existing 13-member executive structure and make it easier to deploy polling agents.

Umeh said the party was preparing early to ensure its agents could obtain official polling-unit results on election day. He referred to his participation in the Electoral Act amendment process and said the party wanted agents positioned to collect copies of the EC8A results forms signed by presiding officers.

“We have enough time to prepare for this, and we are doing it,” he said, adding that the party intended to have agents present at every polling unit during the 2027 elections.
