The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has described the latest bandit attack in the state as evidence of security lapses, while questioning the effectiveness of the state government’s surveillance efforts.

The party made its position known in a statement issued on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, following an attack on an Operation Burst base along the Igbeti-Igboho road in Olorunsogo Local Government Area.

Suspected bandits reportedly invaded the security base in the early hours of Sunday and operated for more than an hour. They were said to have stolen items including a generator and a motorcycle.

The APC said the incident had raised concerns about the state’s security situation, particularly the effectiveness of surveillance aircraft acquired by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.

Sadare questioned why the aircraft had not been deployed to detect or track the attackers, especially as the incident occurred in the Igbeti area, where the party said a base station for the aircraft was reportedly located.

“Since the day Gov Makinde celebrated the purported delivery of the two aircraft, nothing has either been heard or felt about their deployment to survey the airspace in the state,” Sadare said.

He added that the absence of surveillance during the attack made it difficult to understand the purpose and effectiveness of the aircraft.

The APC also criticised Makinde’s repeated opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing his position as evidence of what it called inadequate knowledge of economic management.

The party further alleged that the claims surrounding the state’s security surveillance aircraft had not translated into tangible security benefits, calling for greater accountability over their deployment and use.
