A Chief Magistrate handling the case of Yahuza Musa, former chairman of Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, has withdrawn from the matter following an alleged threat to her life.
The magistrate announced her recusal on Wednesday when the case came up for continuation of prosecution, with the prosecution expected to call two additional witnesses. Three prosecution witnesses had previously testified at the last hearing on September 2, 2026.
The magistrate, whose name was withheld, told the court that she could no longer continue with the case and subsequently forwarded the case file to the Chief Registrar, Malam Hussani Hassan, for reassignment.
The development reportedly followed an allegation that one of Musa’s sons visited the residential area of the magistrate and questioned her children about their father’s usual time of returning home.
The son was also allegedly said to have asked about the location of the magistrate’s parents’ residence and made a threat against her.
Following the development, Musa was remanded at a correctional facility pending the reassignment of the case. Sources said the Chief Registrar was in possession of the case file and would forward it to the Chief Judge for further direction.
The case involves allegations that Musa illegally sold and administered fentanyl injections to young people.
The Kano State Multi-Agency Committee on illicit drugs and related offences arrested Musa in August 2026 following an undercover operation. The committee’s chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, said the investigation began after the arrest of a young man whose hand had allegedly suffered severe deterioration following injections.
Rimingado alleged that the young man identified Musa as the source of the substance, prompting the committee to conduct an undercover operation that resulted in his arrest. The committee also alleged that Musa operated an inadequately licensed medical facility and could not produce a valid nursing licence when requested.
Musa was subsequently charged under Section 249 of the Kano State Penal Code over the alleged administration of harmful or intoxicating substances.
