The commanding victory brings Nigeria’s total goal tally to 13 across four matches in the tournament. Tosin Rafiu set the tone early, breaking the deadlock in the eighth minute. Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei then doubled the advantage shortly after the restart, scoring just two minutes into the second half. Mary Mamudu capped off the dominant display with a clinical finish in the 73rd minute.
Crucial to the clean sheet was captain and goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, who preserved Nigeria’s lead in the first half by brilliantly saving a penalty from England’s Rachel Maltby.
With this win, the Falconets hold an overall record of two wins, one draw, and one defeat, alongside two clean sheets in the competition.
Nigeria will return to action on September 20, 2026, for the quarter-finals. The team is set to face the winner of the tie between host nation Poland and Colombia, with kick-off scheduled for 6:30 PM WAT at the Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź.
