Argentine President Javier Milei delivered a scathing critique of the United Nations on Wednesday, labeling the institution a “useless organisation” run by “arrogant parasites.”

Milei, a prominent ally of US President Donald Trump, used his address to launch a broadside against global governance. He argued that the UN has failed in its primary duties of guaranteeing collective security and protecting human rights, permitting international chaos and terrorism to thrive instead.

“It has become a useless organisation, serving only to feed a caste of fatally arrogant parasites disguised as well-intentioned bureaucrats,” Milei told the global body.

The Argentine leader specifically criticized the UN for ignoring Argentina’s sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands referred to locally as Las Malvinas which were the subject of a 1982 war between Argentina and the United Kingdom.

“Those who follow the rules receive no reward for doing so, while those who break them face no repercussions whatsoever,” Milei stated regarding the dispute.

The speech coincided with a major diplomatic announcement between Buenos Aires and Washington. Argentina and the United States unveiled a joint infrastructure initiative known as the Andes-Atlantic Corridor, designed to connect the Latin American nation’s economy including the Vaca Muerta hydrocarbon deposit to Western markets and Atlantic ports.

Tensions surrounding the Falklands have remained high. Recently, an Argentine federal judge ordered British and Israeli companies to halt development on a local oil project. In response, UK Minister for Overseas Territories Uma Kumaran affirmed that London firmly backs all businesses and individuals operating in the disputed territory.
